Belarus is a special corner of the world blessed richly with favorable climate, colorful nature and friendly hospitable people. The stability of normal life of belorussians was interrupted in April of 1986 after the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Images of abandoned houses, ruined schools and kindergartens, constant feeling of anxiety, fear of unknown invisible danger had negative influence on population. it was closely connected with decrease on living standards, deterioration of health care and demographic situation in the republic.

Chernobyl Zone

Gomel province was effected most as it is situated in only 90 kilometers from the zone of explosion. Thousands of people had to leave their homes and move to another regions of the country, others had no other choice as to stay in the contaminated areas and thus to put life and health of their children at risk.

In 1992 the representative of international organization World Vision International Jos Vanhee with initiative group from Gomel region opened in Gomel The Regional Center "Duhovnost" which was the part of partnership till November 1999.
